Introduction to Craniofacial Sleep Medicine
This session will describe what is meant by Craniofacial Sleep Medicine. It will cover conditions associated with sleep disordered breathing, including, but not limited to;
- Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS)
- Snoring
- Sleep bruxism
- Mild/moderate and severe OSA
- Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome
- Pediatric OSA
Integrated, etiology-based treatment approach for OSA
This session will cover the concept of upper airway homeostasis. It will include mechanisms for maintaining upper airway patency using the following approaches;
- Physiologic – upper airway behaviorÂ
- Surgical – including surgical implants, such as hypoglossal nerve stimulation Â
- Non-surgical – using intra-oral and extra-oral devices and appliances  Â
Diagnostic clinical craniofacial features for OSA
This session will cover clinical pre-screening. Specifically;
How is craniofacial variation assessed?
- Assessment of cranial base and calvarial features
- Ears, eyes and orbital features
- Nasal morphology
- Facial profiles associated with OSA
Intra-oral features for OSA pre-screening
- Retro-oral airway examination
- Tongue features
- Tooth and dental arch features

3D CBCT diagnostic craniofacial features
This session will cover clinical pre-screening, using radiographic findings. Specifically;
- Cranial base assessment for diagnostics
- Retropalatal airway features, findings and evaluation Â
- Retroglossal airway features, findings and evaluation Â
- Nasal cavity findings, including the posterior nasal apertures
- Palatal features, findings and evaluation Â
- Cephalometric and cervical features, findings and evaluation Â
- Tomographic TMJ features, findings and evaluation Â
- Upper airway features, findings and evaluationÂ
- Working/differential diagnoses, treatment objectives, treatment planning/finishing Â
Midfacial development
This session will cover the concept of midfacial development, which is often referred to as palatal expansion. It will include mechanisms of midfacial development, including;
- Physiologic development of the midface
- Surgical approaches – including SARPE and implants, such as MARPE
- Non-surgical – using intra-oral devices and appliances in adults/pediatrics   Â
Integrative treatment: Clinical case reviews
This session will review attendees’ clinical teaching cases and cover practice aspects, including marketing, clinical implementation and reimbursement with the Speaker Panel.
